How to shout so it answers

Use one or two syllables. A greeting or a name fits inside the 0.6-second gap, so the copy comes back whole.
Then stay silent and count the repeats. The effect is the silence being filled.
Stretch the vowel and cut it off cleanly, as you would cupping your hands outdoors.
Long sentences turn into a round, with you singing over yourself. Fun once, tiring after that.

Canyon, cave echo or tunnel

The echo voice on this site is a cave: repeats come at less than half this spacing and sit in a heavy four-second reverb, so they blur into the walls. The tunnel is tighter still, a flutter you hear as texture. The canyon is the only one where you can count the repeats. For a wider gorge, the Echo every 1.1 s clip leaves over a second before the return. The Feedback 0.75 clip keeps the shout bouncing back many more times before it dies.

Is a canyon echo the same thing as a delay effect?

Yes. Musicians call it delay: a copy of the sound played back after a set time, here 0.6 seconds, then again and again, quieter each round.

Can my friends hear the canyon echo in a Discord call?

They can if you join from discord.com in Chrome and set the input to Facecam Virtual Mic. The Discord desktop app doesn't list it, and its noise suppression should be off or the repeats get muted.
