Short answer

Yes, Voicemod is a mainstream app from a Spanish company, not malware, as long as you get it from voicemod.net or the Microsoft Store. It installs a virtual microphone driver, which needs administrator approval and has clashed with some anti-cheat software and Windows test builds. Its privacy policy says Voicemod doesn't listen to your live voice and doesn't sell your data, but it does collect usage and diagnostic data. The real risk is fake download sites and "free PRO" cracks.

Voicemod is one of the best-known voice changers for PC. People ask whether it's safe for three reasons: it installs a driver, antivirus software sometimes complains about it, and there are a lot of unofficial download sites. Here's what we found.

Who makes Voicemod?

Voicemod is made by a company based in Valencia, Spain. Its careers page says it was founded by three brothers in 2014 and has more than 90 staff. The legal entity named in its privacy policy is Voicemod Inc., Sucursal en España, and the Windows driver lists Voicemod S.L. as its maker. It's an established company with a real address, not an anonymous download.

What does Voicemod install on your computer?

Voicemod changes your voice everywhere on your computer (Discord, games, Zoom) by adding a virtual microphone. On Windows that's a driver called Voicemod Virtual Audio Device (WDM). Apps then pick it like a real mic, and Voicemod feeds it your changed voice.

  • Administrator approval. Windows asks whether to let Voicemod make changes. Installing any audio driver needs this, so the prompt is expected.
  • System requirements. Windows 10 (build 1607 or later) or Windows 11, 64-bit, plus the Visual C++ 2019 runtime and .NET Framework 4.7.2. AI voices need a processor with AVX2. On Mac, its requirements page lists macOS Ventura 13 or later (another help page says Monterey 12; the newer page is dated September 30, 2026).
  • An internet connection. The requirements ask for permission to connect to Voicemod's servers, and AI voices are downloaded to your computer before you can use them.

None of that is unusual. Every system-wide voice changer has to sit between your microphone and your apps somehow, and a driver is the standard way. It's also why it can clash with other low-level software.

Does Voicemod conflict with anti-cheat or Windows?

Voicemod's own help center documents two driver problems:

  • Code 37 with Riot Vanguard. The anti-cheat used by Valorant once stopped Voicemod's driver from starting. Voicemod says the latest Vanguard fixed it.
  • Code 39 on Windows Insider builds. Microsoft revoked Voicemod's driver on Windows test builds above 22557, and Voicemod offers a separate compatible build for them.

Its help center also has guides for unblocking Voicemod in your firewall or antivirus. If your antivirus flags it, first make sure the file came from voicemod.net or the Microsoft Store, then follow Voicemod's own guide. Don't turn off your antivirus for a file from anywhere else.

What data does Voicemod collect?

The privacy policy (last updated 11/06/2025) is clear on the question most people have:

We do not listen to your conversations when you are using the real-time voice changer features in VM Products and we do not listen to any voice recordings you provide for the purposes of AI voice creation.

Voicemod Privacy Policy
What Voicemod's privacy policy says, checked 2026-10-02
QuestionWhat the policy says
Does it listen to my voice? No, not to live voice-changer use or AI voice recordings.
What does it collect?Account details, diagnostic data (errors and performance), use and purchase history, how you use the app, and your username in the games or platforms you use it with.
Is my voice used for training?Only if you opt in, and it says the data is anonymised as soon as it's collected.
Does it sell data? No: "we do not sell any of your information or data to third parties."
Who else is involved?Payment providers (Xsolla, Paddle), hosting (Google and AWS) and unnamed analytics tools.
How long is data kept?"As long as we need it". No fixed periods are given.
Can I delete my data?Yes. Access, correction and deletion requests go through Voicemod's support form.
Minimum age16.

Two things the policy doesn't spell out: where the desktop app's AI voices are processed (it says audio stays on your device for some other Voicemod products), and how long data is kept. Neither is a red flag on its own, but if they matter to you, ask Voicemod's support before you sign up.

What do the app stores show?

  • Microsoft Store: listed by Voicemod, free, rated 4.0 from 432 ratings in the US store on October 2, 2026. It's labelled "Uses all system resources", which is how the Store marks classic desktop apps that need full access, like most audio tools.
  • Apple App Store: Voicemod's mobile app (a separate product from the desktop one) is rated 4.7 from about 20,300 US ratings.
  • No browser version: Voicemod lists ChromeOS and browsers as "on our roadmap", not available.

How do you download Voicemod safely?

  1. 01

    Use an official source

Download from voicemod.net (its download link may ask you to sign in) or from the Microsoft Store. Lookalike sites rank in search results; skip them.

  2. 02

    Skip "free PRO" versions

Cracked installers are a common way to spread malware. The free version is legitimate: it rotates a set of free voices daily and gives you one soundboard.

  3. 03

    Expect one admin prompt

Windows asks once whether Voicemod may make changes; that's for the audio driver. Read the prompt before you allow it, as Voicemod's install guide says.

  4. 04

    Know how to remove it

Uninstall from Windows Settings, then Apps. Afterwards, check Sound settings and set your real microphone as the default input again.

Is it safe to use on Discord and in games?

Discord and most games don't ban voice changers. What gets people banned is how they use them: harassment, impersonating real people, or dodging a ban. That's true of any voice changer. The practical risk is anti-cheat, which watches drivers closely; check your game's support pages if it refuses to start with Voicemod installed.

Is there a voice changer that installs nothing?

If a driver is what worries you, a browser voice changer avoids it. Ours, the Real-Time Voice Changer, runs in a Chrome tab and only asks for microphone access. Its effects (pitch, robot, deep and so on) run on your computer, so your voice isn't uploaded.

Be clear on the trade-off. A browser tool can only reach websites open in Chrome, like Google Meet or discord.com, through our extension. It can't change your voice in games, the Discord desktop app or other desktop programs, and it doesn't have Voicemod's huge voice library. Our AI character voices are a separate tool, and unlike the effects they do send your voice to our servers while you use them. If you need your voice changed everywhere on your PC, Voicemod (from its official site) is the more complete tool. Our voice changer page lists what each of our tools reaches.

Questions

Is Voicemod a virus?

No. Voicemod from voicemod.net or the Microsoft Store is a legitimate app from an established company. Fake download sites and cracked "PRO" versions are where the risk is.

Does Voicemod record my voice?

Its privacy policy says Voicemod doesn't listen to your voice when you use the real-time voice changer, and only uses voice samples for improving its tech if you opt in.

Why does my antivirus flag Voicemod?

Voicemod installs an audio driver, and security tools watch drivers closely. Check that the file came from an official source, then follow Voicemod's help center guide for antivirus and firewall exceptions.

Can Voicemod get me banned?

Not by itself. Some anti-cheat tools have clashed with its driver, and harassment or impersonation can get you banned with any voice changer.

What do you get in Voicemod's free version?

There's a free version with a daily rotation of voices and one soundboard. PRO adds the full library and VoiceLab.
