Avatar for Zoom
Facecam's avatar copies your face through your webcam and shows up as a camera in the Zoom Web App in Chrome, so people see the avatar instead of you.
Your browser will ask for camera access when you click.
Set it up in Zoom
01
Set up the avatar
Open the avatar tool in Chrome, allow your webcam, and check the avatar follows your head and mouth.
02
Join from the browser
Go to app.zoom.us/wc → Join a meeting, or use Join from your browser on the invite page.
03
Switch camera
In the meeting, select the arrow next to Start Video / Stop Video and choose “Facecam Virtual Camera”.
Tested by Facecam team. Facecam extension 2.1.0 (test build) in Chromium 153.0.8010.12 on macOS 26.5.1 (Apple silicon), with Chromium's built-in test camera and microphone, not signed in to any app. We opened the Zoom Web App's join page, not a meeting and checked from inside that page that its device list listed Facecam Virtual Camera and got video from it (1280x720). We didn't sign in or join a call there, so Zoom's own menus in the steps come from Zoom's help pages (see Sources).
If it doesn't work
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Facecam camera missing from the list | Reload the Zoom tab with the extension running. |
| The avatar freezes | Keep the avatar tab open and Chrome on screen. Chrome slows down tabs you can't see. |
| Zoom shows a black tile | Another tab has your real webcam. Close other camera sites and reload. |
More about Zoom
Zoom's own avatars vs Facecam
| Zoom avatars | Facecam avatar | |
|---|---|---|
| Where | Zoom desktop and mobile apps | Zoom Web App in Chrome |
| Enabled by | Account owner or admin | You |
| Characters | Zoom's cartoon, realistic and stylised sets | Your own avatar |
| Also works in | Zoom only | Meet, Teams web, discord.com |
If you're on the Zoom desktop app and your admin has avatars on, Zoom's built-in ones need no setup at all. Facecam fills the gap in Chrome, where Zoom avatars aren't offered.

Questions
Is this an AI avatar?
It's an animated character that copies your face as you move, not an AI-made video of you.
Does my webcam image leave my computer?
No. Your face is tracked on your computer, and Zoom only gets the avatar.
