Free Zoom Virtual Background and Filters

Blur your room, put your own picture behind you, or use a plain colour, plus a warmer, brighter picture, in Zoom meetings you join from Chrome. Free, no sign-up.

Webcam Effects: blur or swap your background

Your browser will ask for camera access when you click.

Set it up in Zoom

  1. Set up your look

Click Start camera in the Webcam Effects tool on this page. Under Background pick Light blur, Strong blur, a colour or your own image; under Filters pick a look such as Warm or Bright and fine-tune the sliders. Then click Use as my camera in calls. Effects in the Facecam popup has the same background choices.

  2. Join from your browser

Open the invite in Chrome, dismiss the prompt to open the Zoom app, and click Join from your browser. Allow the camera and microphone when Chrome asks.

  3. Pick the camera

Click the small arrow next to the video button and, under Select a Camera, choose “Facecam Virtual Camera”. Your preview switches to the effect.

  4. Change it mid-meeting

Open the Facecam popup and switch the background or move a slider. Zoom keeps the same camera, so nobody sees a reconnect.

Zoom's own virtual background or Facecam's

In the Zoom desktop app, use Zoom's own virtual backgrounds and filters: Facecam can't reach the desktop app. In the Web App, Zoom's virtual background needs Chrome or Edge and a processor with at least 4 logical cores, and its video filters (frames and stickers) are made for the desktop and phone apps. Facecam's background is a camera of its own, so it doesn't depend on Zoom's check, and the same look carries over to Google Meet, Teams and discord.com in Chrome.

More about Zoom

A look you can keep

The extension remembers your effect settings, so the next meeting starts with the same background and picture. Upload one backdrop image and it stays on your computer; nothing about your video is sent to Facecam.

Questions

Is this Zoom virtual background free?

Yes. Webcam effects run on your computer, with no account and no credits. That includes blur, a colour and your own background picture.

Can I use my own picture as a Zoom background?

Yes. Under Background in Webcam Effects, upload any image from your computer. It stays on your computer and isn't sent to Facecam.

Zoom says my computer doesn't support virtual backgrounds. Can I still blur my room?

In the Zoom Web App, try Facecam's: it runs in the extension and reaches Zoom as a camera, so Zoom's own requirements check doesn't apply to it. In the Zoom desktop app, only Zoom's own options are available.

Do I need a green screen?

No. Facecam finds you in the picture without one. Even light on your face and a background that isn't the same colour as your clothes give the cleanest edge.

Can other people tell I'm using Facecam?

They see a camera called Facecam Virtual Camera only if they look at device names on your screen. In the meeting it's your video with the effect.

Can I use these in the Zoom desktop app?

Not directly. The desktop app only lists cameras installed on your computer; use the Web App, or Zoom's own filters there.

Do I need a Zoom account?

Not for Facecam. Whether guests can join from the browser is up to the meeting's host.
