Face swap for Microsoft Teams
Be anyone in a Teams meeting: join in Chrome, choose Facecam Virtual Camera, and your new face is what the meeting sees.
Live Face Swap needs Chrome on a computer. Send yourself the link, or see the examples below.
Set it up in Microsoft Teams
01
Choose who you'll be
Click the Facecam icon in Chrome's toolbar, choose Face swap under Your look, and click one of the built-in faces or upload a photo of the face you want.
02
Open the invite in Chrome and stay in the browser
Select Join the meeting now on the invite, then Continue on this browser. Teams asks Chrome for your camera and mic: allow both. Guests don't need a Microsoft account for this.
03
Pick the camera before you go in
On the pre-join screen, turn the Camera toggle on and choose “Facecam Virtual Camera” from the camera list. Give the preview time to change to your new face, then select Join now.
04
Or change it once you're inside
In the meeting, select the dropdown arrow next to Camera and choose “Facecam Virtual Camera” there.
Tested by Facecam team. Facecam extension 2.1.0 (test build) in Chromium 153.0.8010.12 on macOS 26.5.1 (Apple silicon), with Chromium's built-in test camera and microphone, not signed in to any app. We opened the Teams (free) web page at teams.live.com, not a meeting and checked from inside that page that its device list listed Facecam Virtual Camera and got video from it (1280x720). We didn't sign in or join a call there, so Microsoft Teams's own menus in the steps come from Microsoft Teams's help pages (see Sources).
If it doesn't work
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| The camera list in Teams has only my webcam | You're in the Teams desktop app, or Facecam is off. Open the meeting link in Chrome, choose Continue on this browser, and reload the tab with the extension on. |
| Teams says it can't use the camera | In Chrome, open Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → Camera and check that Teams is allowed to ask. Inside Teams on the web, More options → App permissions has its own camera switch; turn it on and refresh. |
| A blurred or replaced background looks wrong around the new face | Teams' own background effect is stacked on top of the swap. Set it to none under Effects and avatars before joining, or Video effects and settings during the meeting. |
| Colleagues saw my real face for the first seconds | You joined before the swap was ready. Next time wait on the pre-join screen until the preview shows the new face. |
Teams on the web vs the Teams app, for face swap
| Teams in Chrome | Teams desktop app | |
|---|---|---|
| Sees Facecam Virtual Camera | Yes | No |
| How you get in | Continue on this browser | Opens by default from the invite |
| Other people's video | One incoming video or the shared screen at a time | The full gallery |
| Needs an install | Only the Facecam extension | The Teams app |
Microsoft lists Chrome as fully supported for Teams meetings, with that one-stream limit on what you see. It doesn't change what others see of you: they get your swapped camera like any webcam.
More about Microsoft Teams
Changing faces mid-meeting
Open the Facecam popup and click another face. Teams keeps the same camera, so there's no rejoin and no camera flicker in the meeting. To drop the swap, choose Show my camera in the popup, or switch Teams back to your webcam with the arrow next to Camera.
Free Teams meetings
Teams (free) at teams.live.com runs in the browser too, and Microsoft caps its meetings at 60 minutes and 100 people. That's the version our device test opened.

Questions
Does the face swap work in the Teams desktop app?
Not directly: the app can't see a camera that exists inside Chrome. Join the same meeting from Chrome, or carry the swap into the app through OBS Virtual Camera as our desktop-app guide shows.
Do the other people in the meeting need anything?
No. Only you need Chrome and Facecam. They can be on any Teams app or device.
Can I use Teams' own avatars instead?
Teams avatars are a cartoon version of you, and Microsoft offers them in the desktop app for Windows and Mac. A face swap keeps your real video and changes only the face.
Will Teams label my video as changed?
Facecam draws nothing on the picture, and Teams treats it as an ordinary camera.
