Voice changer for streaming
Facecam's voice changer reaches a live stream through streaming studios that run in Chrome, such as StreamYard or Restream Studio, which list the Facecam Virtual Mic as a microphone and send the stream to Twitch, YouTube or Kick.
Your browser will ask for microphone access when you click.
Set it up in streaming
01
Open your studio in Chrome
Open StreamYard, Restream Studio or a similar streaming studio in Chrome and connect your destination there, for example Twitch or YouTube.
02
Pick the voice first
Choose a preset in Facecam before you enter the studio so the mic opens with the effect already on.
03
Select the mic in the studio
In the studio's camera and mic check, choose “Facecam Virtual Mic”.
04
Do a private test
Record a short private or unlisted stream and listen back. Studios add their own sound filters, and this is where you catch them.
Tested by Facecam team. Facecam extension 2.1.0 (test build) in Chromium 153.0.8010.12 on macOS 26.5.1 (Apple silicon), with Chromium's built-in test camera and microphone, not signed in to any app. We opened streamyard.com, not a signed-in studio and checked from inside that page that its device list listed Facecam Virtual Mic and got sound from it. We didn't sign in or join a call there, so StreamYard's own menus in the steps come from StreamYard's help pages (see Sources).
If it doesn't work
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| The studio's echo cancellation eats the reverb | Look for an audio setting such as echo cancellation or noise reduction in the studio and turn it down or off. |
| Viewers hear a delay between voice and lips | Pitch effects add a tiny delay. Most studios have an audio delay or sync setting to fix it. |
| I want OBS | Use OBS for scenes and a streaming studio for the voice, or a voice changer app that OBS can see. |
More about streaming
Why not OBS
OBS takes sound from the mics on your computer and from its own sources. Facecam's mic only exists inside Chrome tabs, so OBS has nothing to pick. An OBS Browser source is its own built-in browser with no Chrome extensions, so it can't load Facecam either.
The soundboard is different: it can run as an OBS browser source on its own, because it doesn't need your mic.
Stream setup checklist
- Headphones on, so game or chat audio doesn't go back into the effect.
- One preset for the whole stream; switching mid-sentence is jarring.
- Keep the effect subtle enough that viewers can follow what you say.

Questions
Does it work with Twitch Studio or Streamlabs Desktop?
No. They're desktop apps, so they can't see a mic that lives in Chrome.
Can I use it for TikTok Live?
Only if your streaming studio can send to TikTok. The TikTok apps can't use it.
