Real-Time Voice Changer: change your voice live

Your browser will ask for microphone access when you click.

Set it up in Riverside

  1. 01

Open the studio link in Chrome

Riverside supports Chrome, Edge and Safari 18.2 or newer; Facecam needs Chrome. If the Mac app opens, go back and join from the browser.

  2. 02

Pick the mic in the lobby

On the right of the lobby, under the video preview, use the microphone dropdown and choose “Facecam Virtual Mic”. Wear headphones.

  3. 03

Set echo cancellation before recording starts

The host can switch echo cancellation per person from the People panel, but only before or after a recording, not during. With headphones on, have it turned off for your track so reverb and echo effects survive.

  4. 04

Leave noise reduction off for effect voices

Noise reduction lives in Studio settings → Recording. It's baked into the recording, so keep it off if your voice uses robot, radio or whisper effects.

Tested by Facecam team. Facecam extension 2.1.0 (test build) in Chromium 153.0.8010.12 on macOS 26.5.1 (Apple silicon), with Chromium's built-in test camera and microphone, not signed in to any app. We opened riverside.com, not a signed-in studio and checked from inside that page that its device list listed Facecam Virtual Mic and got sound from it. We didn't sign in or join a call there, so Riverside's own menus in the steps come from Riverside's help pages (see Sources).

If it doesn't work

ProblemFix
The lobby doesn't list Facecam Virtual MicYou're in the Mac app or another browser, or the tab loaded before Facecam was on. Open the link in Chrome and reload.
My track's upload is stuck after the sessionRiverside finishes uploads from the same computer and browser. Reopen Chrome on that machine and let it finish; the voice is already in the file.
The voice drifts out of sync with my videoPitch effects add a few hundredths of a second. It's rarely visible; if it is, nudge the audio in the editor.

More about Riverside

The effect is recorded, not added later

Because the track is recorded locally from the mic you picked, the changed voice is permanent in that file. If you might want your natural voice too, record a second take, or record normally and run the downloaded file through the Online Voice Changer afterwards: same presets, and you keep the clean original.

About Magic Audio

Riverside's Magic Audio is applied in the editor after recording and is built to strip noise and reverb. On a voice that has reverb on purpose, such as Demon or Echo, preview it before exporting.

Questions

Can a guest use it without an account?

Yes. Guests join a Riverside studio from the link in Chrome; picking the Facecam mic in the lobby works the same for hosts and guests.

Can I hide my identity on a podcast with this?

It changes how your voice sounds, not your accent or way of speaking. The Anonymous voice is the strongest disguise.

Does it lower the recording quality?

No more than the effect itself does. Riverside still records your track locally from the mic it's given.
