Face swap in OBS
Stream with another face in OBS: the swap runs in Chrome, and a browser source or a window capture brings it into your scene.
Live Face Swap needs Chrome on a computer. Send yourself the link, or see the examples below.
Set it up in OBS
01
Get the swap running in Chrome
In the Facecam popup, choose Face swap under Your look and click a face. Leave Chrome open for the whole stream.
02
Open vdo.ninja and add your camera
Go to vdo.ninja in the same Chrome, choose Add your Camera to OBS and allow the camera. In its video source list pick “Facecam Virtual Camera”, wait for the new face in the preview, then press Start.
03
Copy the view link
VDO.Ninja shows a VIEW link once the camera is live. Copy it.
04
Add it to OBS as a browser source
In OBS, add a Browser source and paste the link as its URL. Size it to your canvas. The source plays what Chrome is sending.
05
Keep your own mic in OBS
Use your normal microphone as OBS's audio input. If you send audio through VDO.Ninja as well, tick Control audio via OBS on the browser source so it shows up in the mixer.
Tested by Facecam team. Facecam extension 2.1.0 (test build) in Chromium 153.0.8010.12 on macOS 26.5.1 (Apple silicon), with Chromium's built-in test camera and microphone, not signed in to any app. We opened vdo.ninja's start page, the page you push your camera from and checked from inside that page that its device list listed Facecam Virtual Camera and got video from it (1280x720). We didn't sign in or join a call there, so VDO.Ninja's own menus in the steps come from VDO.Ninja's help pages (see Sources).
If it doesn't work
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| The browser source is black | The vdo.ninja tab was closed, or it's still on your real webcam. Reopen it, pick the Facecam camera and press Start again; then refresh the source in OBS. |
| The picture freezes when I switch windows | Chrome slows tabs it thinks nobody is watching. Keep the vdo.ninja tab in its own window and don't minimise it. |
| Viewers see my real face at the start | The swap wasn't ready when the scene went live. Start it a minute early and check the OBS preview before you switch scenes. |
| I pasted the Facecam site into a browser source and nothing happened | A browser source is OBS's own built-in browser, not your Chrome, so it has no Facecam extension and no sign-in. Only the VDO.Ninja view link belongs there. |
Two ways into OBS
| VDO.Ninja link | Capture the Chrome window | |
|---|---|---|
| OBS source | Browser | Window Capture, or macOS Screen Capture on a Mac |
| Cropping | None, the source is only the video | Crop away the browser frame |
| Goes through | A direct browser-to-browser video link | Your screen |
| What we checked | vdo.ninja opens the Facecam camera | Described in our desktop-app guide |
On macOS 13 and newer, OBS marks Window Capture as deprecated and points to macOS Screen Capture, which can capture a single window. On Windows, if the captured Chrome window is black, try the other capture method in the source's properties.
More about OBS
From OBS to a call app
Once the swap is a source in your scene, Start Virtual Camera in OBS's Controls dock turns the scene into OBS Virtual Camera, which desktop apps such as Zoom, Teams and Discord can pick. It carries video only, so those apps keep using your normal mic.
Streaming without OBS
Studios that run in Chrome, such as StreamYard or Kick's web Go Live, list the Facecam camera directly, so the swap needs no extra hop there. OBS is worth the setup when you need its scenes, overlays and encoder settings.

Questions
Why isn't Facecam in OBS's Video Capture Device list?
That list shows cameras installed on your computer. Facecam adds its camera inside Chrome only, so websites see it and programs like OBS don't.
Does this work with Streamlabs Desktop?
Streamlabs Desktop has the same Browser source and Window Capture sources, so the same two routes apply. We haven't tested it there.
Is the VDO.Ninja link private?
Anyone who has the view link can watch that camera, so treat it like a stream key and don't show it on stream.
Can I swap faces during the stream?
Yes. Click a different face in the Facecam popup; the tab keeps sending and OBS shows the new face without touching the scene.
