What the cabin speaker does to a voice

PartSettingWhat you hear
Small speakerBass cut below 500 Hz, treble cut above 2.6 kHzA boxy voice from a grille in the ceiling
Headset micDistortion drive 0.3, 50% mixA soft buzz when the captain leans in

LevellingCompressor 8:1 from -32 dB, then +6 dBA relaxed mumble that still reaches the back row

The captain's delivery

  • Speak low, slow and a little bored. Captains sound like they've made this announcement a thousand times.
  • Stretch out the filler between facts: a long hum before the altitude, another before the weather.
  • Sit close to the mic and don't project. The compressor does the lifting, and a near, quiet voice is what a headset picks up.
  • Give the standard items in order: greeting, flight time, cruising height, weather at the destination, thanks.

Cabin, seat or tower: which clip

The main clip is the intercom heard dry, as if recorded at the speaker. The second adds a short reverb, 0.7 seconds at 20%, and puts the listener in a seat a few rows back with the cabin around them. That's the one for a sketch or a travel video intro. The third raises distortion to 0.5 and adds an 8-bit crusher at 40%. That is no longer the passenger announcement; it's the cockpit radio talking to the tower, clipped and rough. Use it for flight-sim sessions where you read back clearances.

Free Pilot voice changer FAQ

Can I use the pilot voice in a flight simulator?

Not inside the simulator or a desktop radio client, which can't see Facecam Virtual Mic. It works when your group flies together on a Discord call opened at discord.com in Chrome.

How do I make a captain announcement for a video?

Record the announcement in the Online Voice Changer with this voice and download it. The seat-in-the-cabin clip's reverb helps it sit in travel footage.

Why does the pilot voice sound so nasal on me?

The +5 dB midrange push at 1.3 kHz is strong on voices that are already bright. Lower it a few dB, or move Pitch down a step or two.
