What a dispatch channel is made of

PartSettingWhat you hear
Narrow bandBass cut below 500 Hz, treble cut above 2.8 kHzA thin voice with no chest and no air
BarkMidrange +6 dB around 1.4 kHzThe hard, nasal push of a radio speaker
CrackleDistortion drive 0.35, 55% mixLoud syllables break up
Digital gritBit crusher 9-bit at 8 kHz, 40% mixA faint fizz on every word
Keyed micNoise gate at -40 dBHard silence between phrases, like a released talk button

Talk like a unit on the air

  • Open with who you are calling and who you are, then the message. Radio traffic follows a fixed order.
  • Keep each transmission under ten seconds and stop completely. The gate at -40 dB closes fast, so a clean stop sounds like letting go of the button.
  • Stay flat and unhurried, even for bad news. Dispatch voices give locations and numbers, not feelings.
  • The effect adds no beep or static burst. Drop one in from the soundboard if your scene needs it.

Police radio, walkie-talkie or military radio?

The walkie-talkie voice is a cheap handheld: rougher and more toy-like. The military radio is pitched lower and squeezed much harder, built for a field set under strain. This one sits between them. It is narrow and crackly but stays at your own pitch, which suits patrol units and dispatchers in roleplay servers, crime podcasts and short films. The lighter clip, distortion 0.15 with the crusher off, is the dispatcher on a desk mic. The 0.55 clip is a unit shouting from a moving car.

Free Police radio voice changer FAQ

Can I use it in a roleplay server's voice chat?

If the server's voice runs through Discord, join from discord.com in Chrome and choose Facecam Virtual Mic as the input. In-game voice chat in a desktop game can't see that microphone.

How do I get more static?

Raise Distortion toward 0.55, as in the moving-car clip, and bring the Bit crusher mix above 40%.

Can I add the radio sound to a video voiceover?

Yes. Run the recorded line through the Online Voice Changer with this voice selected and save the download.
