More about this voice

Why it stops sounding like you

PartSettingWhat you hear
NotePitch -3A speaking note lower than your own
SizeTone +2.5A smaller throat, the opposite of what a lower note normally comes with
DoublingChorus wobbling 1.1 times a second, 30% mixA faint second voice that blurs the fine detail people know you by
Top endTreble cut above 6 kHzLess of the breath and hiss particular to your mouth and mic

Your habits give you away before your sound does

  • Change your rhythm. People know you by pace and pauses as much as by timbre, so talk a little slower or faster than your habit.
  • Drop your pet phrases and filler words. No slider hides the greeting you always use.
  • Keep your volume even and hold back your usual laugh; a laugh stays very recognisable through mild effects.
  • Try it on a friend who knows your voice well. If they pick you out, move Pitch one more step.

What a disguised voice is for

Use it where you'd rather not put your real voice on record: a public stream or video, voice chat with strangers in a game community, an interview where the speaker has asked to stay anonymous, a part in an audio drama. It's a privacy tool, not a way to pass as some particular person, and it lowers the odds of being recognised by ear without guaranteeing anonymity.

The upward clip (Pitch +4, Tone -2) suits low voices that go muddy when lowered further. The clip with a 30 Hz robot buzz at 15% is harder to recognise and a little less natural; pick it when hiding matters more than sounding ordinary.

Free natural voice disguiser FAQ

Is the disguise impossible to see through?

No voice effect is. It makes you hard to recognise by ear, more so with the robot buzz, but treat it as privacy and not as a guarantee.

How is it different from the anonymous voice?

The anonymous voice is more extreme and obviously processed. The disguiser stays near a natural human voice, so listeners hear a person, just not you.

Can I disguise my voice in a recording?

Yes. Record or upload the audio in the Online Voice Changer, apply these settings and save the result for your video or podcast.

Does it work on a Twitch stream?

Yes, when you go live from Twitch's browser studio in Chrome and select Facecam Virtual Mic as the microphone there. Desktop streaming software can't see it.
