The parts of a sneer

PartSettingWhat you hear
GravelDistortion 0.35, 50% mixed inA dry, scratchy throat
WaverVibrato 5.5 times a second, 100% mixed inA sour quiver, like an old voice shaking with spite
SneerMidrange +5 dB around 1.4 kHzThe curl of the lip, turned into sound
SinkPitch -1, Tone -1Barely lower and bigger: still a person-sized grouch

Relish every nasty word

  • Curl your upper lip and speak through the side of your mouth. It changes the vowels in a way the EQ only hints at.
  • Stretch the insults. Slide down slowly through words of disgust and bite off the last consonant.
  • Scheme slowly, then pounce: a drawn-out plan, a pause, and a quick delighted finish.
  • Rhyming lines suit it, since the story is told in verse. Write a couplet about your friends' decorations.

A voice with a season

From late November this voice earns its keep: a holiday stream where the grouch reviews chat's gift ideas, a family video call, a Secret Santa reveal, a recorded greeting that complains about cheer. Two clips widen the range. Distortion 0.15 trades the snarl for a sly purr, which is better for long narration. The Whisper 30% clip is scheming under his breath, good for asides to the camera. Pair it with the Santa voice in a recorded two-hander and you have both sides of the argument.

Free Grinch voice changer FAQ

Can I use the Grinch voice on a Christmas Zoom call?

Yes, when you join through Zoom's web client in Chrome. Click Use this voice in calls first, then select Facecam Virtual Mic in Zoom's microphone menu.

Is it the voice from the Grinch films?

No. It's a style imitation made from distortion, vibrato and EQ on your own speech. It takes nothing from the films or specials and isn't licensed.

The waver makes me sound seasick. Can I reduce it?

Yes. Lower the Chorus slider's mix until the quiver sits behind the voice instead of on top of it.

Does the Grinch voice need an account?

No account and no payment. Open the page in Chrome, allow the mic and talk.
