Never stop smiling
- Hold a showman's grin for the whole line. The cheer has to stay on even when the words turn menacing; that mismatch is the character.
- Use an old announcer's rhythm: quick, clipped, every consonant landed, sentences rolling on with barely a breath.
- Punch one word per sentence and glide over the rest, like someone reading the evening programme.
- Stage laughter and musical stings are not added for you. If you want them, laugh yourself or play them from a soundboard.
On the set, in the studio, or breaking up
The main clip is the voice as heard through the radio itself. Widening the band to 250–5500 Hz gives the host in the studio, not on the set: fuller and clearer, the better pick for long roleplay scenes where people need every word. The last clip pushes distortion to 0.5 at 70% and adds an 8-bit crusher at 9 kHz, 40% mixed in. That is the broadcast breaking up, for the moments when the character's temper slips. Switch to it for a line or two, then return.
Free Alastor voice changer FAQ
Can I use the Alastor voice for Discord roleplay?
Yes, as long as you use Discord in a Chrome tab at discord.com. Choose Facecam Virtual Mic under Voice & Video after pressing Use this voice in calls. It won't show up in the downloaded Discord app.
Is this Alastor's real voice?
No. It's an old-radio effect chain on your own voice that points in his direction. It is unofficial and holds no audio from the series.
Why does it sound so thin?
Everything below 500 Hz and above 3.6 kHz is removed, as on a 1930s set. The studio clip's wider band brings some body back.
