More about this voice

The honk is one big midrange peak

PartSettingWhat you hear
NoseMidrange +10 dB around 900 HzA strong honk, as if spoken with a pinched nose
GruntPitch -2A touch lower than you
Small headTone +2A slightly smaller, boxier mouth
BlockyBass cut below 200 Hz, treble cut above 4.5 kHzNo rumble, no sparkle, only the middle

Grunt, don't talk

  • Villagers don't speak words, and the effect can't remove yours. Hum your reply through a closed mouth with the rise and fall of a sentence.
  • End a questioning grunt on a rising note and a refusal on a short falling one. Those two sounds cover most trades.
  • Push the sound into your nose while you hum. The 900 Hz peak multiplies whatever nasal tone you give it.
  • If you do say words, keep them short and flat, with a grunt before or after as punctuation.

Where it's funniest

The joke works best next to someone talking normally: a friend asks a question during a Minecraft session and gets a grunt back. It also suits short videos, where a villager reacts to a trade or a raid, and stream bits where chat makes an offer. The Midrange +14 dB variation gives even more honk for a quick gag, though it gets harsh on headphones if you keep it on. The Pitch -4 variation is an older villager driving a hard bargain; use it as the second character in a two-villager sketch.

Free Minecraft villager voice changer FAQ

Will it turn my speech into villager sounds automatically?

No. It reshapes your voice into a nasal honk, but the words stay words. Hum or grunt to get the villager.

Does it work in Minecraft's own voice chat or on console?

No. Games and consoles can't see the Facecam Virtual Mic. Hold the call on discord.com in Chrome while you play.

Is this the sound from the game?

No. Nothing from Minecraft is used and it isn't an official sound; it's an effect on your own voice that resembles the villagers' tone.

Can I make a villager voice for a video?

Yes. Record your grunts in the Online Voice Changer with these settings and download the audio.
