Performing a dragon

  • Open lines with a breath out, an h before the first word. Through the distortion it becomes a snort of smoke.
  • Draw out s and r sounds. A hiss or a rolled r feeds the roar far more than vowels do.
  • Sound old and patient. Long sentences are fine when each clause gets a pause; dragons in stories bargain and boast, they don't bark.
  • Save real roars for the end of a line and turn slightly off the mic, or the input overloads before any effect is applied.

Which dragon for which scene

  • As loaded: the roar in a cavern. Entrances, threats, a boss reveal.
  • Whisper 30%: hot breath between the words. For quiet, close menace, the dragon speaking to someone it has cornered.
  • Reverb at 45% mix and 5 s long, with an echo every 0.38 s at 20%: deep inside the mountain. It sounds vast, so keep lines to a few words; the tail covers whatever comes next.

Free dragon voice changer FAQ

Can I do the dragon voice live for a D&D session?

Yes, if the table's call runs in a Chrome tab such as discord.com or Google Meet: choose Facecam Virtual Mic as your microphone there. It isn't available inside the Discord desktop app.

Does it add fire or roaring sounds by itself?

No. It only transforms what you say or breathe into the mic, so the growls, snorts and hisses have to come from you.

My players can't understand me. What should I change?

Lower Distortion first, then bring Pitch up a few steps. Clarity returns quickly and it still sounds like a very large creature.
