More about this voice
Why it sounds big, not slowed down
A record played too slow sounds sluggish because everything moves down together. The monster preset moves the size of the voice (Tone -6) further than its note (Pitch -8), so it sounds like a huge throat speaking at normal speed. That's what makes it a creature rather than a broken tape.
The growl is distortion at 0.5, mixed in at 60%, so your words stay under it. A bass boost below 140 Hz adds weight, and the treble above 7 kHz is cut so the distortion doesn't fizz.
Three monsters from one preset
| Clip | Change | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| As it ships | none | Boss fights, roars, short threats |
| Less growl | Distortion 0.25 | Long talking parts, storytelling, kids' games |
| An octave down | Pitch -12 | Giants and titans; short lines only |
Growl tips
- Roar from your chest, not your throat. The effect adds the grit, so you don't have to strain.
- Keep a hand's width from the mic. Up close, plosives turn into thumps.
- If your mic clips on roars, turn its input level down in your system settings rather than the effect.

Free monster voice changer FAQ
Is the monster voice free?
Yes. It runs on your computer in Chrome, with no account and no credits.
Does it work in games?
Only in voice chat that runs in a Chrome tab, such as discord.com. Games and desktop apps can't see the Facecam Virtual Mic.
Can I make it scarier?
Pull Pitch down toward -12 and raise Reverb for a cave around it. For something ghostly instead, the demon and ghost voices are a better start.
