More about this voice

How the bullhorn sound is built

  • Narrow band: everything below 600 Hz and above 3.5 kHz is cut, so there's no chest and no air.
  • Honk: a 6 dB boost at 1.8 kHz, the frequency small horn speakers ring at.
  • Drive: distortion at 0.55, mostly mixed in, for the cracked edge of an overdriven horn.
  • Squash: an 8:1 compressor, so whispers and shouts come out about as loud as each other.

Keep your audience

Because the compressor flattens everything, the megaphone voice is loud even when you speak softly. In a call, use it for a line or two and switch back, and keep it down if others are wearing headphones.

Free megaphone voice changer FAQ

Do I need to shout?

No. The compressor brings soft speech up to the same level. Shouting just adds more distortion.

Can I make it cleaner?

Lower the Distortion slider, as in the PA clip above. Keep the narrow band and it still sounds like a speaker.

Is it free?

Yes. It runs on your computer in Chrome with no sign-up.
