More about this voice

Why 4 bits, not 8

The name is the era, not the setting. Crushing a voice to a real 8 bits is surprisingly subtle: the telephone preset does exactly that and still just sounds like a phone. At 4 bits there are only 16 volume steps, so every word turns grainy and stepped.

  • A heavy bit crusher (4-bit): the grainy, chirpy sound of old game audio.
  • Strong distortion: squares off your voice, close to the beeps of old sound chips.
  • A small lift (Pitch +3, Tone +2): a lighter, game-character size.
  • Bass and treble trimmed and the volume held steady: loud, even and easy to follow.

Tips

  • Speak clearly and a bit slower; the crunch smears soft consonants.
  • Short phrases work best: announcements, catchphrases, "level up" moments.
  • Keep your mic volume moderate. The preset is already distorted, so a louder mic only adds fizz.

8-bit voice changer FAQ

Will it auto-tune my voice like a chiptune song?

No. It follows your own voice up and down. Facecam has no auto-tune preset.

Why is there fizz between words?

The crunch makes quiet background noise easy to hear. The preset mutes the mic between words to stop most of it; a quieter room helps more.
