More about this voice

A machine that is easy to listen to

PartSettingWhat you hear
LightnessPitch +2A slightly higher, neutral voice
Synthetic ringRobot 180 Hz, 15% mixA thin electronic tone behind the words
Digital surfaceBit crusher 12-bit, 30% mixA mild grain, like a voice chip
SheenFlanger 0.1 times a second, 30% mixA faint metallic shimmer

Read it like a status report

  • Keep it helpful and neutral, neither friendly nor cold, like a voice reading a system log.
  • State facts with numbers: percentages, times, deck levels, door states. Numbers sound right in this voice.
  • Give every sentence the same shape: level until the last word, then a small drop.
  • Leave half a second before you reply to anyone, as if processing.

Computer, GLaDOS or robot?

The Robot preset this page starts from is plainly mechanical. The computer turns its buzz down to 15%, so it stays pleasant through long announcements. The GLaDOS-style voice is higher (Pitch +5) with a strong flanger and reverb: a character with a personality. Use the computer when the machine is in the background: a ship's status voice in a tabletop game, a tutorial narrator, a stream assistant. The second clip (Pitch -4 with a 1.5-second reverb) makes it a room-sized machine; the third (8-bit crusher at 60%) is an old terminal's speaker.

Free computer voice changer FAQ

Does this read typed text aloud?

No. It changes your spoken voice, either as you talk or on a file you upload. You say the lines.

Can I use the computer voice in a Teams meeting?

Yes, when you join from Teams on the web in Chrome and choose Facecam Virtual Mic as the microphone. The Teams desktop app doesn't list it.

Which clip sounds most retro?

The third. An 8-bit crusher at 60% gives the crunchy sound of an old terminal's speaker.
