Talk like a soldier on comms

  • Pitch isn't changed, so the character is in the delivery. Use a flat, bored, procedural tone.
  • Speak in short reports: a location, a status, a request for orders. End each one cleanly so the noise gate snaps shut like a radio key being released.
  • Clip your consonants. The narrow band drops low vowels, and crisp t, k and p sounds carry the words.
  • Hold a steady distance from the mic. Leaning in adds bass that the filter throws away anyway.

Where the trooper voice fits

  • Star Wars roleplay servers and tabletop sessions, for guards, patrols and checkpoint scenes.
  • Costume and armor-build videos: record the lines with the Online Voice Changer and lay them under the footage.
  • Squad banter with friends who know the bit, two or three people on the same voice.
  • A short channel intro. For a whole evening of talking, the Distortion 0.15 clip is easier on listeners.

Free stormtrooper voice changer FAQ

Is this the actual stormtrooper sound from the films?

No. Filters, distortion and a bit crusher are shaped to resemble a helmet radio. No film audio is used.

Does it work in a game's voice chat?

Not directly. Games and consoles can't pick up Facecam Virtual Mic. If your squad talks on Discord, join from discord.com in Chrome and the voice goes through there.

What are the two other clips?

One lowers distortion to 0.15, a trooper with a new helmet. The other uses a 6-bit crusher at 60% for a broken-up signal from a patrol far from base.

Is there a radio click at the end of each line?

The voice has no click of its own. The noise gate mutes the mic below -50 dB between words, which gives a similar hard stop.
