More about this voice

Why it sounds like bones

PartSettingWhat you hear
No fleshBass cut below 400 HzAll chest and warmth removed; only the hard part of the voice is left
SkullTone +3, Pitch +1A small, dry cavity in place of a throat
RattleChorus 9 times a second, 80% mixA fast shiver, like teeth chattering
ClackMidrange +5 dB around 2.5 kHzA knocking, bony brightness on consonants
CryptReverb 20% mix, 1.2 s longA small stone space

Rattle while you talk

  • Clack your consonants. Words full of t, k and p sound like bones knocking together, so choose them and hit them hard.
  • Hold vowels a beat longer than normal. A vibrato this fast only shows on sustained sounds.
  • Play it for laughs as much as for fear: a dry, cheerful skeleton with bad puns suits the thin sound better than a threat does.
  • Add a chattering laugh, short and quick, with your jaw loose.

Skeleton, ghost or old man?

The old man preset underneath is a frail person with a gentler shake. Here the wobble runs at 9 times a second and the low end is cut at 400 Hz, so no body remains. The ghost is mostly breath in a long hall, something without substance, while the skeleton is all hard edges and sits close. The second clip stretches the reverb to 3.5 s at 35%, rattling inside a stone crypt. The third turns the rattle off: thin and hollow without the shake, and the easiest of the three for long conversation.

Free skeleton voice changer FAQ

Why does my voice sound so thin?

On purpose: everything under 400 Hz is cut, which is where the body of a voice lives. Lower the Bass cut slider if you want some of it back.

Can I use the skeleton voice in Minecraft?

Not inside the game, which can't use a Chrome microphone. Run voice chat through discord.com in a Chrome tab and your friends will hear it there.

Is the shaking too strong for calls?

It can be over long sentences. Use the rattle-off clip's setting for talking and bring the Chorus back up for laughs and one-liners.
