Talk in stored phrases

  • Keep to short, complete phrases of three to six words, as if only a handful fit in the toy's memory.
  • Repeat a phrase with identical rhythm and melody each time. Exact repetition is what makes it sound recorded.
  • Start and stop abruptly. Leave a blank second before speaking, like the delay after a button press.
  • Stay relentlessly cheerful, whatever the words are. Toys have one mood.

Where a toy voice is useful

It is at its best giving a voice to an object on screen: a plush on your desk during a stream, a doll in a stop-motion video, a toy character in a tabletop or horror-game session. It also makes a good alert or mascot voice, recorded once and replayed. Two clips age the toy. The slow wobble, 0.8 times a second at 50%, is an old pull-string toy winding down. The treble cut at 2 kHz is the speaker buried in stuffing, duller and further away.

Free talking toy voice changer FAQ

Can I record lines for a toy or puppet video?

Yes. Say each line into the Online Voice Changer with this voice loaded, then save the files and place them on your video's timeline.

How is this different from the toy robot voice?

The toy robot adds a mechanical buzz to the voice itself. This one keeps a human voice and changes the speaker it seems to come from.

Why is it so quiet in the low end?

Everything under 500 Hz is cut, because a speaker that small can't produce bass. Lower the Bass cut slider if you want some back.

Is the talking toy voice free?

Yes. There's nothing to pay and nothing to sign up for; it runs in your browser.
