Free PNGTuber for Zoom
Join a Zoom meeting as a drawing that talks when you do, by joining from the browser. Free, no sign-up.
Your browser will ask for microphone access when you click.
Set it up in Zoom
01
Prepare the character
In the PNGTuber Maker, start the mic, pick or upload a character and click Use as my camera in calls.
02
Join from the browser
Open the meeting link in Chrome, cancel the prompt to open the Zoom app, and click Join from your browser. Allow the camera and microphone.
03
Pick the camera
Click the small arrow next to the video button and, under Select a Camera, choose “Facecam Virtual Camera”.
04
Talk
The character's mouth opens with your voice. For the steadiest result, also choose Facecam Virtual Mic as Zoom's microphone: the avatar follows the sound going through it.
Tested by Facecam team. Facecam extension 2.1.0 (test build) in Chromium 153.0.8010.12 on macOS 26.5.1 (Apple silicon), with Chromium's built-in test camera and microphone, not signed in to any app. We opened the Zoom Web App's join page, not a meeting and checked from inside that page that its device list listed Facecam Virtual Camera and got video from it (1280x720). We didn't sign in or join a call there, so Zoom's own menus in the steps come from Zoom's help pages (see Sources).
If it doesn't work
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| No Join from your browser link | The host has switched it off or uses end-to-end encryption, which hides it. Ask the host to enable browser joining. |
| Zoom shows a black tile | Reload the Zoom tab with Facecam on and select the camera again. |
| The character has a jagged cut-out edge | A Zoom virtual background is on and is trying to find a person. Turn it off, and set the backdrop colour in the PNGTuber Maker instead. |
More about Zoom
Why a PNGTuber suits meetings
- People can tell who is speaking, because the picture reacts, without you being on camera.
- It needs no webcam, so it works from a desktop PC with only a headset.
- It's light: a few pictures swapped by volume, no face tracking.
Zoom's 40 minutes and the avatar
Meetings hosted on Zoom's free plan are limited to 40 minutes; that depends on the host, not on Facecam. The avatar keeps running as long as the PNGTuber's settings are loaded in the extension, so rejoining a new meeting only takes picking the camera again.
Prefer a 3D character?
The avatar for Zoom page covers the face-tracked 3D version, which needs a webcam and mirrors your head and expressions.

Questions
Does it work in the Zoom desktop app?
No. Join from the browser, or route it through OBS Virtual Camera.
Do I need a Zoom account?
Not for Facecam. Whether guests can join from the browser is up to the meeting's host.
Does the meeting hear anything different?
No. A PNGTuber changes the picture only. Your voice is unchanged unless you also turn on a voice effect.
