Free PNGTuber for Microsoft Teams
Replace the initials circle with a character that reacts when you speak, in Teams meetings opened in Chrome. Free, no sign-up.
Your browser will ask for microphone access when you click.
Set it up in Microsoft Teams
01
Build it once
Open the PNGTuber Maker, click Start mic, choose a starter character or upload an Idle and a Talking picture, and click Use as my camera in calls.
02
Join Teams in Chrome
On the invite, choose Continue on this browser.
03
Turn the camera on and choose Facecam
On the pre-join screen switch Camera on and select “Facecam Virtual Camera”. Later, the arrow next to Camera changes it.
Tested by Facecam team. Facecam extension 2.1.0 (test build) in Chromium 153.0.8010.12 on macOS 26.5.1 (Apple silicon), with Chromium's built-in test camera and microphone, not signed in to any app. We opened the Teams (free) web page at teams.live.com, not a meeting and checked from inside that page that its device list listed Facecam Virtual Camera and got video from it (1280x720). We didn't sign in or join a call there, so Microsoft Teams's own menus in the steps come from Microsoft Teams's help pages (see Sources).
If it doesn't work
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Teams shows my webcam instead | The camera list is still on your real webcam; choose the Facecam camera from the dropdown next to Camera. |
| The character sits on a blurred smear | Background blur is on in Teams. Switch it off under Video effects and settings. |
| The mouth never opens | Pick Facecam Virtual Mic as the Teams microphone too, so the avatar hears what the meeting hears, and lower Threshold in the maker if your mic is quiet. |
More about Microsoft Teams
When to use it at work
- Stand-ups and socials where cameras are encouraged but you'd rather not be on one.
- Teaching or streaming a session where a mascot fits better than a face.
- Days when the webcam is broken: the avatar needs only the mic.
It's a cartoon, so read the room. For a client call, the plain backdrop options in the maker keep it tidy.
What Teams does with the picture
Teams treats the character like any camera feed. In a browser you see one incoming video at a time, but everyone else's layout is unchanged: your tile shows the character in their gallery.

Questions
Is this the same as Teams avatars?
No. Teams avatars are 3D figures inside the desktop app. A PNGTuber is flat pictures you choose, and it reaches Teams through the camera list in the browser.
Can I use my company mascot?
If you have the pictures and the right to use them: upload a mouth-closed and a mouth-open version.
Does it use my webcam?
No. It only reads how loud your mic is, on your own computer.
