More about this sound
About our version
Ours is 1.2 seconds of harsh, low buzz. Pair it with the correct-answer chime on the same board for a full quiz kit.
The other takes: Long buzz (1.8 seconds, for a really wrong answer), Double buzz (two short blasts, the "strike" feel of a family quiz show) and 8-bit, descending retro game blips for gaming streams.
Why the wrong answer buzzer sounds like that
A buzzer is the opposite of a bell. A bell rings at a clear, pleasant pitch; a buzzer is a low, rough tone full of harsh overtones, which the ear hears as "no" before the brain catches up. Game shows have leaned on that contrast for decades, a ding for right and a buzz for wrong. Online, the buzzer moved from quiz shows to any bad take, which is why it lives on the meme board.
Run a quiz night with it
- Put the buzzer and the correct-answer chime on keys next to each other.
- Send the board to Facecam and pick Facecam Virtual Mic in Discord, Meet or Zoom in Chrome.
- Press the buzzer the moment someone answers wrong: speed is the joke.
- Use the double buzz for a second strike and the long buzz for the last one.

Questions
Is there a correct-answer sound to go with it?
Yes: the correct answer chime is on this page's board and has its own page.
What is the game show buzzer sound called?
Usually just the buzzer, or the wrong answer buzzer: a low, rough electronic tone that says no before anyone speaks. Quiz shows pair it with a bell or a chime for right answers, which is why this page's board has both.
Is it the buzzer from a TV game show?
No. It's our own buzzer in the game show style, made with AI for Facecam, so there's no show's audio to clear.
Can I use it in a classroom quiz?
Yes. Play it from the board on a laptop speaker, or put the MP3 in your slides. At 1.2 seconds it won't slow the game down.
